Pelvic Health and Childbirth: What Every Woman Needs to Know Review

Women's bodies are designed to give birth vaginally - whether by God directly or via millennia of evolution. Somehow, magically, in the past 50 years, women are now requiring dangerous interventions to save them from the greater dangers of childbirth.
Yes, many women struggle with the results of weakened or damaged muscles in their pelvic area. The answer is not surgical delivery, but good care for those muscles! Many women spend hundreds on personal trainers to help them isolate their abdominal muscles; these same women cannot identify one of the muscles of the pelvic floor. Identifying those muscles, strengthening them, and avoiding damage to them is a much better solution that risking the well-being of mother and child in surgery.
Kegels, done wrongly, can cause more harm than good. Giving birth while lying on one's back also increases trauma, as does having an epidural (the woman is too numb to push intelligently, thus relies on "Coaches" who encourage unnatural pushing). Episiotomies cut the muscle, while forceps and vacuums can cause severe damage. These latter interventions are also used more when women are given an epidural. Yet, many OB's have an epidural rate over 75%, episiotomy rate of over 50%. Many OBs routinely use forceps and vacuums.
This is definitely an area where free prevention is worth more than a $10,000 cure. Women can find independent childbirth educators, doulas, midwives, and doctors who can help educate them to all their choices. If only they would look.

Pelvic Health and Childbirth: What Every Woman Needs to Know Overview

Almost every woman who has experienced vaginal childbirth has sustained some damage to her 'pelvic floor'. This little-known term describes the network of muscles, fascia, and nerves at the base of the pelvis that provides support for the pelvic and intra-abdominal organs (vagina, uterus, urinary bladder, rectum, etc.). This book - the first of its kind - is designed to help both women who already suffer from this 'silent epidemic' and women who wish to assess the risks of vaginal delivery. Dr Magnus Murphy, an obstetrician and gynaecologist who specialises in pelvic floor disorder, and co-author Carol L Wasson give women the vital information they need to understand symptoms, find treatment, and weigh their childbirth options. Complete with glossary, numerous illustrations, and references for further information, this highly useful handbook makes an important contribution to women's health and draws attention to a serious though often neglected problem.
