The Sheikh's Defiant Bride (Harlequin Large Print Presents) Review

This book at first glance had the potential to be a rather good storyline until you started actually reading it, the book itself fell apart at Chapter 1 and had a steady decline after that. The main characters Tariq and Madison were as opposite as night and day and no matter how the author tried to make it mesh it just wasn't a go, and the plot itself was just too far fetched to be believed.
Madison, and up and coming VP for a corporation that specialized in A.I./IVF treatments, donors and storage better known as artificial insemination, decides that at nearly 30 yrs old that she wants a child but doesn't want the "hassle" of having to date what she deems as all cheating and mistrustful men in order to have a child of her own, so she uses her company's donor bank where she picks out a candidate and becomes impregnated by them; it sounds pretty straight forward but because it's a harlequin it has to have a few twist and turns to make it interesting, enters Tariq who is the crown principle of some middle eastern principality. He has become the heir to the thrown after his elder brother dies, which forces him to consider the direction in which his life has to go since he will one day rule his country. Out of misplaced loyalty and urgency Tariq goes on the hunt to find the "ideal wife" first starting in his homeland and ending up in Manhattan, NY where he meets Madison.
These two characters first meeting sparks of a sexual nature fly but not much else, they come away from this initial meeting not really liking each other but attracted to one another. The story goes on with Madison still intent on her parenting plans and Tariq frustrated because he hasn't found a suitable mate to bring home. He then gets the bright idea to have some of his sperm stored for future use at Madison's company FutureBorn, since he's striking out in the wife stakes, thinking that if he doesn't find a wife he can always later find a woman he wants to use as a segregate mother to produce a child. So far it all sounds feasible right?
Well from this point on the author makes a muck of it, supposedly on the day that Madison is to have her treatment for A.I is the same day that Tariq goes and has the procedure to have some of his sperm stored, and somehow or other the company ends up giving Madison the "donation" Tariq had intended for future use. At this point in the story I put the book down and said "You've got to be kidding me".
I was so close to not finishing this book because it was just too ridiculous to comprehend, but then I said maybe the author will make it all come together in the end. I was wrong; it went from bad to worse. Tariq ends up finding out about the companies blunder and proceeds to stalk Madison and invade her privacy unbeknownst to her finding out she's pregnant only minutes after she does. He has her investigated finds out where she lives and goes to her house unannounced/uninvited and bullies her and tries to bribe her into selling him her baby because it will be his heir when it's born. Of course Madison tells him where to get off and proceeds to have a ridiculous discussion with him while alternately threatening to call the police "which she never does".
Because he can't have his way Tariq devises a plan to kidnap Madison and take her to his country where for the rest of the book he tries to bend her to his will by having sex with her on a plane and then declaring they were married because of it do to some archaic outdated custom in his country, that he himself wasn't too sure it was legit. For the rest of the book Madison works my nerves by blowing hot and cold one minute she's declaring she hates Tariq's guts and will bring him up on kidnapping charges and the next she's falling into bed with him whenever the mood strikes him. And somewhere along all this nonsense they declare their undying love for one another.
In this book Sandra Marton does a disservices to her creative skills in a horrible way, she also does a disservice to anyone whose remotely knowledge about the middle eastern culture by making all middle eastern men appear to be chauvinistic, ignorant and barbaric. Last but not least she does a disservice to women by creating a character that had all the frame work for a strong female role, but turned out to be a disappointment from start to finish.
