From Humor to Hormones: A Man's Guide to a Pregnant Wife and a New Life Review

From a guy's perspective:
Over the last few months, I've read six of the most "popular" books on pregnancy and this is the first I've felt the need to review.
The Pros:
Plenty of good information on pregnancy and childbirth, written in an intelligent and humorous format, especially for those interested in the natural route and home/birthing center delivery. Given the scarcity of baby books written for the daddy-to-be, this is a good one to pick up early on. Gumm is a gifted writer and humorist and has obviously done his homework and written from the heart.
The Cons:
Personally, I found "From Humor to Hormones" to be a thinly disguised manifesto on natural child birth and home delivery. The author makes a passing attempt at neutrality and then pushes the home delivery/birthing center and "no drugs are good drugs" position pretty hard.
I would have found an honest straight-forward approach to Gumm's pre-dispositions to be more refreshing. If you're anti-hospital, please just say so up front so I can make an informed buying decision.
Also, much of the book seems to focus on the stereotypical "Neanderthal husband." For those who don't spend their free time chugging beers on the sofa and watching ESPN on their big-screen TV's, you might not feel that the author is speaking to you personally.
"The Expectant Father" remains the best daddy-to-be pregnancy and childbirth book I've read, but I'll keep "From Humor to Hormones" on my bookshelf for the occasional laugh and to pass along to guys who might be a little less "enlightened."
