Desert King, Pregnant Mistress (Harlequin Presents Extra) Review

The first few chapters of this started off with a blast. I mean it started off with a feisty, very funny, beautiful heroine. There were even laugh out loud moments. The hero was also portrayed as a very strong, alpha-type but totally yummy. I was on a high until around two thirds of the way through when the characters simply changed with absolutely no warning and for no good reason I could discern. The hero became cold and distant, talking some nonsense about a war he had to fight in the desert. The heroine lost her very quirky sense of humour which actually kept the story interesting and fun.
The heroine was pregnant with his child which he knew about from the beginning, yet he chose to go off and fight his stupid desert war (thus,I guess the title "Desert King...") abandoning the heroine and his child for a whole year.
The "dead baby" - I call the baby that - because the author made sure she slept throughout the whole story, even when her mother was running for her life with her in her arms she never woke up, cried, throw up or do anything a baby is expected to do under such circumstances. UNBELIEVABLE even in fiction!! Oh, at the very end of the book she was allowed to 'coo', I guess to remind the reader she still existed. This author seemed to be so excited about the story at first but quickly ran out of ideas and subsequently had no idea where to go next. Its like it was a rush just to get it over and done with.
A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!

Sensible Housekeeper, Scandalously Pregnant (Harlequin Presents Extra) Review

I like Lucas' books because her arrogant billionaires aren't as repulsive before their redemption as most other authors' in the "Unexpected Babies" line tend to be. Rafe's not great, let's be honest here, because if he was, this wouldn't be a scandalous pregnancy, but his boneheadedness is limited to one, "you wouldn't betray me, WOULD YOU," speech before Louisa runs off. Then he gets another asinine, "I'll make your life hell by marrying you and treating you like dog kibble," threat and one last idiotic move before someone knocks some sense into him, but in general, he's an okay guy. He isn't the misogynist pig so many of these guys can be.
Louisa's a bit of a nonentity, which was a disappointment. She did a lot of boo-hooing about her situation, then patting herself on the back about how brave she was to strike out on her own even though she was afraid of the big bad Rafe and how she would fall apart into a puddle of goo when he kissed her. Her little issue that kept her from confiding in Rafe in the beginning was moronic, but then again, I wouldn't be addicted to these like Lindt truffles if they were any different. I was glad to see she'd gotten a backbone later in the book, sad to see she lost it when Rafe reappeared. At least the sex was massively good.
There was too much darting around from place to place; less time going on and on about how Louisa was such a good housekeeper and her shudder-worthy white chocolate brownies, more about their relationship would have been nice, but the sexy times were good and the groveling was delicious. I liked it.

Billionaire Prince, Pregnant Mistress (Harlequin Presents) Review

This is a real Cinderella Story complete with a Puerto Rican- American from the Bronx no less. I thought it was awesome. The heroine is Maria Santos a very talented jewelry designer who is invited to the kingdom to design Queen Tia's 60th birthday piece of jewelry. She meets prince Alexandros and in true Harlequin fashion they hit it off and have sex, she was a virgin. In the morning Alex hears her talking to someone on the phone saying that her chances are great at winning, he jumps to the conclusion that she just bedded him for the job and sends her packing. She didn't get the price that day but the jeweler that was chosen had to be dropped so eventually Alexandros had to get to NYC and bring her back and he does but not just as the jeweler but forcing her to be his mistress. I like Maria, she's no push over, she's just like Jenny from the block! I read it in one day.

The Desert King's Pregnant Bride (Harlequin Presents Extra) Review

Trapped by desire and something else, you won't want to miss The Desert King's Pregnant Bride!
Sheikh Khalid Bin Shareef and Ms. Maggie Lewis were like "two star-crossed lovers" when they met one dark, blustery and rainy evening. They were meant to be but they didn't know it; not at the time they first met nor did the handsome sheikh realize it until it was almost too late! Even taking into consideration how they were both raised, the emotional obstacles they needed to overcome; they were meant to be....lovers.
Maggie was upset, soaked to the bone and realized what a fool she'd been in wanting to take her relationship with her boyfriend a step further. It was like a slap in the face when she found him in the arms of another; she flees, stumbles and is rescued by a handsome stranger who she later finds out is visiting royalty. Khalid persuades Maggie to take a ride from him and upon close inspection sees that she's troubled; instead of taking her home he takes her to the lodge where he is staying while visiting Australia. He's determined to soothe her by getting her warm and dry clothes, just talking to her to reassure and comfort her. He realizes he might be in trouble because he finds her attractive and she intrigues him; he wants to protect her and more.
Khalid hasn't felt like this since his wife died 8 years ago and it disturbs him. While soothing and holding Maggie, things change and they act upon their attraction to each other (I call it fate). She gives Khalid the greatest gift of all, her virginity. However, the next morning she's determined to leave while Khalid sleeps; when he awakes and finds her gone, he's determined to see her again! On top of everything, his brother dies and Khalid is forced to return to his country and become the ruler.Maggie felt foolish and stupid that she was so trusting. She'd never felt loved......her father used, rejected and over worked her; her mother left and took her younger sister when she was very young. She had no sense of belonging, of being loved, self confidence as a woman, or that she might be desired by a man. It was painful to read about Maggie's childhood. However, that one night in Khalid's arms, and their passionate love making would stay with her for a lifetime, she was sure of it!
As for Khalid's youth, his father was selfish; he only cared about his mistresses and Khalid's half brother which left Khalid on his own to forge his own future because he was not heir to the throne. Khalid married young; a few years later his wife died. He's vowed never to give his heart again. He desires Maggie, wants to see her again and arranges for her to travel to Shajehar on the pretence of purchasing horses. It's an accident which causes Maggie to be seen by a physician and later they both learn she's pregnant with his child. He's determined they will marry, she agrees because they are both committed to giving their child support, love and stability, something neither of them experienced when they were growing up. However, Maggie questions if she can live without love knowing Khalid is still mourning his dead wife?
The Desert King's Pregnant Bride was a moving, touching and very enjoyable love story set in a progressive country with its people accepting Maggie as their queen. Watching Maggie grow as a person, taking language lessons, meeting with the women of the village, promoting education, and bonding with Khalid's relatives, lovely!
As for this handsome Sheikh Khalid, his protectiveness and tenderness towards Maggie was incredibly sweet. Yet one wanted to shake him because he held on to a ghost, his dead wife. He was afraid to give his heart and you'll cry for him because it's obvious he adored Maggie.
This was a fascinating book to read. Their passion burns with their strong desire for each other. Annie West pens a wonderful romance novel with The Desert King's Pregnant Bride this being her third sheikh book. I think my favourite parts of this love story were watching Maggie grow, feeling more confident as a person, and taking charge of her life. As for the sexy sheikh.....his tenderness, his concern and desire for Maggie and reading about how he was brought to his knees! Thanks Annie for another wonderful story.....I felt as if I were in your lovely home country, Australia and the beautiful desert!
