Secret Surrogate (Harlequin Intrigue) Review

Texas sheriff Lucas Creed had lost his wife and unborn child to a stray bullet meant for his deputy, Kylie Monroe.
Now she is in trouble and needs his help - mostly because she is his secret surrogate. Kylie hopes to give Lucas what he most desires - a child. She had made a promise to her best friend, Lucas's wife, to help him find happiness.
Now someone has found her and she finds herself surrounded by danger.
Lucas didn't want anything to do with Kylie, as he held her responsible for his wife's death. Yet he was a good sheriff and listened to her after her 911 call. Someone was stalking her. Then he finds out that she is pregnant. Wow!
Now they had to track down the villians that were threatening her and Lucas wants an answer on how she became his surrogate.
A most intrigueing story - and you just can't wait for the next chapter.
Highly recommended - great story. I would say it is a keeper!

Secret Surrogate (Harlequin Intrigue) Overview

The last thing this Texas sheriff wanted was to heed a frantic late-night call from the woman who'd destroyed his life. Old wounds were ripped wide-open after Lucas Creed discovered that his former deputy had moved on-and was pregnant to boot. But after rescuing Kylie Monroe from hired guns and taking her under his protection, she repaid him by dropping a bombshell on his world-weary shoulders....

Kylie knew that her misstep in the line of duty had cost Lucas everything. Now, as his secret surrogate, she planned to give the gruff lawman the ultimate gift to heal his heart-although it would break her own. When they teamed up to expose the corrupt man behind the threats, would their glacial rift melt beneath an inferno of desire?

Texas Baby (Cowboy Country, Book 2) (Harlequin Superromance, No 1441) Review

Josie Whitfield wasn't trying to break up the party when she crashed her car into the front gate of the Clayton ranch during Chase Clayton's engagement party. She was just trying to confront him with the fact that she was pregnant and he was going to be a father, and perhaps find out why he had disappeared after a quick one month fling and a new pair of bed sheets. Unfortunately, she passed out from exhaustion before she could park the car. Tired and overworked, though recently out of a job after introducing her creepy, vengeful manager to the joys of morning sickness, Josie finds her way to Chase's doorstep, only to discover that she has been duped. She knows intimate details about his childhood, but she has never seen this sexy, sensitive cowboy before in her life.
Chase Clayton is about to get married to his childhood friend and the owner of the adjoining Everly Ranch, Susannah Everly, who needs to marry to satisfy the requirements of her grandfather's will. The ranch means everything to her, and she would do just about anything to keep it. Many in town hope the marriage of convenience might blossom into something more, but Chase knows of the tangled history between Susannah and his best friend and ranch manager Trent Maxwell, and his heart just isn`t in it. The appearance of a lovely, pregnant waif who knows private details about his life, claiming to be the mother of his child-to-be certainly doesn't help. And who is this impersonator running around seducing women on his behalf? Chase and Josie join forces to track down Mr. Flim Flam, and end up discovering much more than they had expected.
Kathleen O'Brien's poetic style and her ability to create warm, genuine characters and steamy romantic tension (and occasionally a spooky, engaging murder mystery!) really set her books apart. Kathleen has a gift for story, and a companionable way of drawing readers in and making them comfortable. In the Firefly Glen series, she introduced readers to the town of Firefly Glen, the very embodiment of the joy of returning home, a place where natives and travelers alike can find a warm smile and a helping hand. In Quiet as the Grave she explored the darker desires of the heart, and created a creepy murder mystery that certainly sent a shiver down my spine. Throughout all of her books she explores the love found in all areas of our lives- the love for a niece, a neighbor, a best friend, or a life companion. Thank you for many hours of happy reading, Kathleen!

Texas Baby (Cowboy Country, Book 2) (Harlequin Superromance, No 1441) Overview

Clayton Creek ranch was the scene of a Texas-sized engagement party until agate-crasher stunned everyone with the news she was pregnant with Chase ClaytonIV's child. Shattered: The True Story of a Mother's Love, a Husband's Betrayal, and a Cold-Blooded Texas Murder Review

Don't all of us wonder why some people cross the line and commit murder? As an avid True Crime reader, that is all that matters to me--WHY? And Kathryn Casey, the master of True Crime, never disappoints. David Temple seemed to be a cherished son of Texas and certainly the "All-American Boy" with his superb football skills. He had an intense and charming demeanor which was seemingly irrestible, especially to certain women. He was adored by his parents and brothers, to the extent that all of them seemed to overlook or simply ignore his dark side, and there were plenty of warnings that it existed. Casey lists all of them. Did the delightful Belinda Lucas fall so desperately in love with this overbearing man because of her equally overbearing father? Certainly that's one explanation, but fall she did, to her enormous peril. There are some who still question that David Temple marched his eight-months-pregnant wife upstairs while holding a shotgun to her head and executed her, but I have no doubt he committed this chilling crime because of all the family background supplied by Kathryn Casey. I'm sure his parents (who never chastised David for anything--BIG parental lesson here) still consider him innocent of killing their daughter-in-law and granddaughter, but in this case the jury got it dead right. It's a true cautionary tale, well worth the read.

Shattered: The True Story of a Mother's Love, a Husband's Betrayal, and a Cold-Blooded Texas Murder Overview

Hero, Husband, Father . . . Monster?

In Creekstone, Texas, a small, quiet suburb of Houston, football was king . . . and David Temple was a prince. A former high school and college gridiron star-turned-coach, he had a fairy-tale marriage to bright, vivacious Belinda Lucas, a teacher at the local high school who was so warm and popular her colleagues called her "The Sunshine Girl."

The fairy tale ended savagely on January 11, 1999, when Belinda's lifeless body was discovered in a closet. Her skull had been shattered by a shotgun blast at close range. She was eight months pregnant.

There was no damning evidence directly linking the brutal murder to husband David, who stood by emotionless and dry-eyed as police searched the crime scene. But a dogged eight-year investigation would expose a shocking history of cruelty and domination, infidelity and rage-ultimately resulting in an epic courtroom battle for the ages-as the scandalous truth was revealed about love betrayed and innocent lives . . . shattered.
