Kiss of a Demon King (Immortals After Dark, Book 6) Review

Rydstrom Woede has been fighting and searching for a way to kill Omort, the sorcerer that invaded and desecrated his castle, Castle Tornin, in the Kingdom of Rothkalina hundreds of years ago. The rightful king of demons, Rydstrom is in search of a special sword in which to behead Omort and resume his rightful place on the throne. Despite dead end after dead end Rydstrom refuses to give up his plan. He is the heir to the kingdom and he will find a way to restore honor and loyalty to his subjects. With this in mind, he continues on his wild goose chase to find the one thing guaranteed to kill Omort.
Getting a tip from his brother, Rydstrom begins his journey to their meeting place only to come face to face with a coquettish vixen. When she implores his help Rydstrom doesn't hesitate but it is only when he is fully under her spell does he realize who she is - Sabine - the Queen of Illusions and his enemy's sister. Then to add to his animosity, she captures him and places him in her dungeon, or rather, his dungeon. Rydstrom is not a happy demon and when he gets free, Sabine is going to pay. But first, he has to resist her charms and attempts at seduction. And that is something that he definitely does not want to do.
The minute I finished reading Dark Desires After Dusk, I envisioned Rydstrom's story, KISS OF A DEMON KING, as being pivotal to this series and I knew without a doubt that it would be a story worthy of this illustrious and very noble demon king. I love when I am correct because KISS OF A DEMON KING was extraordinary.
Having lost his home hundreds of years ago to the foulness of Omort, Rydstrom spent the next years of his long life trying to find the one thing that was deadly to this wicked sorcerer. But through it all, he also had visions of finding the one woman he could make his queen. A woman his people would cherish and honor as their king's consort -- a woman he would love and in turn would love him as well and raise a family with him.
Fate had a funny way of rearing its head when the powers that be chose Sabine as Ryd's mate. Not known for her niceness, Sabine has magic so potent that it can be deadly to anyone that crosses her path. Kept in line by her brother, Sabine is reliant upon Omort's good will because without it, her life would be in more danger than it already is. Capturing Rydstrom is one thing, falling in love with him is another and Sabine fights with her almost non-existent conscience every step of the way.
KISS OF A DEMON KING is full of magic, mayhem, sorcery and sensuality. Readers will not want to miss one word of this memorable and enchanting tale. The closer to the end I got the slower I read because I knew once the story ended I would be left craving more of this brilliant and emotionally gripping saga.
KISS OF A DEMON KING releases from Pocket on January 20, 2009. Since it is book 6 of Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series, I recommend reading the books in order but it is not necessary; KISS OF A DEMON KING stands alone on its own merits. It is truly one of the most amazing tales Kresley Cole has ever released.

The Princess Is Pregnant (Crown and Glory) (Silhouette Special Edition) Review

Princess meets Prince Charming. Princess sleeps with Prince Charming. Princess gets pregnant? Princess refuses request for her hand in marriage?
This book only gets four stars because I can not believe the princess (Megan) in this story. She was so immature about the whole thing. She gets knocked up and doesn't want to take on her repsonsibility. Oh she wants the baby (Like she's really going to be raising it considering all the people there to help her care for it). But she doesn't want to bite the bullet and marry the Prince who knocked her up. And why? Because she wants to marry for love. I won't say what I want to here about that.
Either way it was a good book. I read it. I liked it. The chemistry felt real between the two main characters. Thiss being a series of course we aren't allowed to get all our questions answered. Bummer.

Nicki Beauman and Zane Rankin may be boss & employee at Rankin/Ritter Security firm, but they're also very close friends. Which is unfortunate, because Nicki has spent the last three years unsuccessfully trying to banish the her mild crush on her attachment-avoiding, bimbo-dating boss while enjoying every minute of his friendly attention. But when Nicki's regular date stands her up, and Zane takes her to a party instead, sparks fly and the couple end up in bed - with unexpected results.
Mallery tells a sweet story in "A Little Bit Pregnant," about a believable heroine who almost never lets being in a wheelchair stop her, and a hero whose charming exterior makes him fun to read while masking a troublesome (but not overdramatic) backstory. The dialog is witty, and even as friends the affection between them shines. Both sides of the story are plausible, and Mallery does well to capture the rift between loving someone and admitting it to yourself.
Readers noting that this is a Follow-up to "Shelter in a Soldier's Arms" (Silhouette SE 1400) will see some similarities between the plotlines, but "Pregnant's" honest take on love, encouraging main characters, and own form of wit make it stand out on its own.

Rutledge Werewolves: Scent of Passion (Book 1) Review

For one night Sophie Briggs throws caution to the wind and has a one night stand with a handsome drummer. Six weeks later, she's looking at a pregnancy test and knows she has to contact the father. Artemais Rutledge, as Alpha Werewolf for his pack, has been searching for his True Mate for many years. He thinks he's found her in Sophie, and when he learns her news, knows he has for sure. But will she accept his shape changing nature, and can he make her his mate in every way?
Scent of Passion brings a strong, emotional tale to the vast list of werewolf stories. Unlike most were stories, dealing with the change and angst, I found Artemais and his brothers to be refreshingly normal and accepting of their werewolf heritage. Instead, the author brings together two strong individuals and lets the spark collide.
I did think Sophie accepted Artemais' werewolf nature a bit too quickly and without much thought on her own, though an earlier dream foreshadowed this acceptance, and she still proves to be a strong heroine more than capable of matching wits with her werewolf lover. Artemais proves single-minded in his determination to make Sophie his mate, which creates some great scenes between him, his brothers, and even those around town.
One subplot involving another werewolf seemed a bit unnecessary, for while good, the subplot lacked the space necessary to successfully resolve the situation, and added little to the romance. Still, the werewolf's situation paralleled the characters' as well, and I simply wish more time would have been devoted to that character's emotional growth.
Still, this book creates a powerful, emotional read with vibrant, real characters. A very good book.

Marliss Melton has to be one of my favorite new authors. She has only written six books but the last four about Seal Team 12 are great. She seems to have picked up where Suzanne Brockmann left us. I really like the stories about Seals, not only are they good guys but they are really putting their lives on the line for our Country. Her Seals are real men, men who can face the toughest of battle and the tenderest of emotions.
Soloman McGuire is a senior chief, he has faced the loss of his family and child when his wife ran off while he was on assignment. She wanted more than the life he could give her and she took his son with her. She has been gone five yrs and he has no idea where she is.
Jordan Bliss is in Venezuela attempting to adopt a young child she has grown to love, when there is a major coup. Jordan has not had an easy life, she has faced a cheating husband and the loss of a baby. She is determined to save one little boy.
Jordan's sister was a physical therapy nurse, she was there to pull Rafael Valentino back from death two yrs ago and now she calls him for help to save her sister. Rafe is with the FBI and shortly Seal Team 12 arrives to get Jordan, Soloman must pull Miguel from her arms and force her on the plane. He finds it hard to do but he is following orders.
Jordan fights and screams her way back home but she is determined to go back and get her child. Soloman can't forget the woman who would give anything even her life for her child.
The story is complex but brings the two people back togather, and Soloman slowly finds himself falling for Jordan, but even if she does fall for Soloman she will find a way to go back for Miguel.
I loved this book and look forward to many more from this wonderful author. Do not miss it, highly recommended.

The Hazards of Hunting a Duke (Desperate Debutantes, Book 1) Review

First, I would like to address M. Garland who didn't care for this book and wasn't sure she would read any more. Don't let this one book influence your opinion of a really wonderful author. I've read all of Julia London's books (save for the Highlander series because I'm just not into that sort of thing)and this is my least favorite. She wrote Devil's Love and Wicked Angel and then the Rogues series and they were all really, really good. Even her contemporaries are worth a read.
This book grinded me for several reasons and I'm not just picking on London here, but every author who does it. Two people marry for convenience and then one day, the woman decides she wants more out of her marriage and she starts to pout and whine because he can't give her more for one ridiculous reason or another. They become estranged and then poof, one day he wakes up, gets hit with a brick and realizes that yes, he does love her. Then everything is fixed and good thing, because she's usually pregnant.
Another thing that I'm tired of seeing is the total lack of communication between husband and wife. If my husband saw me come out of the woods with another man (a little role reversal, but the same idea)whom he suspected I was having an affair with and I really wasn't, I would say a little more than, "I'm sorry." It only made Jared look more guilty and gave his wife yet another reason to sulk. Why didn't he explain to her what really happened??? Why is there always such a frustrating lack of communication between the hero and heroine? Why can't they just be honest and forthright with each other so that we're not left skimming through the several pages of 'she couldn't live like this' and 'he couldn't live like this' before they FINALLY decide to really talk to each other?
Ava set out to find herself a husband with a prestigious title and a few bucks in his pocket. Jared set out to find himself a wife who would not repulse him in bed. I would say he would have a bigger axe to grind with the gold digger than her with him but it didn't play out that way. We were to believe that she was the wronged one and, as usual, it's the guy who's brought to his knees.
It's not a boring read but I did tire of all the sulking going on. And just because I wasn't as impressed with this book as I've been with some of London's others doesn't mean I won't read her forthcoming books. I always look forward to another of her works in print.

Dimitri knew he had made a horrible mistake when he threw Xandra out of his life, all in a misguided attempt to appease his ill grandfather. As soon as Xandra leaves Paris, he attempts to find her, but he searches for months and comes up with nothing. It's not until fate, and a little help from Xandra's brother-in-law, brings them together again that he realizes he can't allow Alexandra to leave again. He wants her, he wants their son, and he'll do just about anything to keep them in his life!
Although the little summary on the back of the book intrigued me, I didn't really think I'd like this book too well. Specifically, I didn't think I would like the character of Dimitri, throwing out his pregnant lover so he could marry someone else. But it didn't take me long to realize that there was so much more going on here than meets the eye. There's Dimitri's childhood, his perceptions of love, his grandfather's illness, and emotions that he can't put a name to. There's also Alexandra's belief that love is always conditional, that she must protect herself from being hurt, and that no one will really want her for herself.
There is not a saint in this book - the characters are both flawed, but the reader grows to love them both in spite of those flaws (or, maybe even because of them). The author manages to weave together such a convincing, wonderful romance full of ups and downs, promises and disappointments, that you can't help but fall under the author's spell. What an incredible, emotional book - I didn't want to put it down, and when I finally finished, I immediately wanted to read it again. This book deserves more than 5 stars, and is a wonderful tale of second chances.

I am an avid reader of romance novels. I have read many but never have I come across one so original. If you read romance novels as much as I do, you would know that great, imaginative storylines are rare and hard to find. This, indeed, is one of the best books I've come across. I always find it irritating when I read a one-sided review that tells me nothing about what the book is about, so here it is [briefly]: Rowena Belleme, a young, beautiful, virginal, aristocratic woman is forced to do the unthinkable due to some terrible circumstances. She's made to 'rape' Warrick, a great Lord, who also happens to be a gorgeous, big giant of a man. After the deed is done - the reason the deed was done was because Rowena's elderly husband croaked in the nick of time and a suitable replacement was needed fast! so became the abduction of Warrick - they let the handsome knight go, never expecting to hear from him again. What a shock they were in for because in not too long Warrick was back, and with his army too. Rowena was captured, as Warrick had vowed revenge and Rowena was going to pay. She was taken to his castle, where she was repaid in kind by Warrick, over and over, again and again. After a while Rowena is made his personal servant to serve him only. I bet you can guess that his passion is very ardent and she recoils at first, fearing his lust ... I'll let you wonder the rest.
Anyway, the book was a delightful read. I'm not an obssessive fan of Ms. Lidsey's but I must say that she has done a very, very good job. I recommend this book to anyone who likes tummy-wrenching erotica along with sweet romance. I thought this book was a two-hanky read.
