Prayers And Promises for Supernatural Childbirth Review

Jackie Mize's book is the most wonderful faith filled book for those who are pregnant, want to be pregnant or those who have suffered the loss of a miscarriage.

Prayers And Promises for Supernatural Childbirth Overview

A Bundle of Joy for Every Woman Whose Heart Longs to be a MommyTen million people each year suffer—often in private shame and pain—because they've been told that they can never conceive children of their own as a couple (literally billions of dollars are spent each year on fertility cures); or because they've been conditioned to believe that it's normal to struggle through a painful and difficult pregnancy; or because they fear whether they have what it takes to be affirming, joyful parents.Jackie Mize—who was told it was impossible for her to have a baby and who is now the mother of four beautiful children—provides readers with a supernatural answer. Filled with powerful and intimate scriptural prayers, this little book gives readers a way to come before Father God in faith with issues from having a difficult time getting pregnant to joyfully cradling that precious gift from God in their arms.By taking an expectant mother—or a woman who desperately wants to be expecting—through God's promises for her and her baby's future, Prayers and Promises for Supernatural Childbirth is a bundle of joy that delivers hope and encouragement, while chasing away doubts and fears.Specific issues covered in the scriptural prayers include: fulfillment over barrenness; the threat ofmiscarriage; a joyful delivery day; and dedicating one's baby to God.

Within Arm's Reach: A Novel Review

This is a beautiful book. It deserves to be read by anyone who loves great writing. It deftly and insightfully weaves the different stories of the McLaughlin family into a rich and deeply satisfying tapestry.
The novel is written from the subjective perspectives of six people, bound together by ties beyond their choosing. Like all great writers, Napolitano displays a manifest affection for her characters, and it becomes an affection we share. Notably our sympathies shift throughout the novel, as these are real human beings, drawn with the skill and attention they deserve.
I read Within Arm's Reach in one sitting. It is exquisitely written, with an ending that feels true and yet emotionally satisfying. With this remarkably accomplished debut, Napolitano can stand proud in the company of Ann Patchett, Alice McDermott and even John Irving.
This is Napolitano's first novel and her future looks extremely bright, not to understate the fact that she has clearly already arrived.

Magical Beginnings, Enchanted Lives Review

Magical Beginnings, Enchanted Lives is a deeply nourishing and inspiring book for expectant mothers, their partners and attendants.
Drawing on the centuries-old philosophies of Ayurveda and yoga, Deepak Chopra and his Chopra center colleagues David Simon MD and Vicki Abrams (who runs the Magical Beginnings birth education programme) have created a rich blend of mind-body medicine for pregnancy and childbirth that recognises childbearing as a spiritual, as well as a physical, process.
Magical Beginnings, Enchanted Lives is both beautifully written and practical, offering excellent information on nutrition (from an Ayurvedic perspective), alternative remedies for pregnancy complaints and a simple pregnancy yoga routine. Chopra and co also emphasize the many benefits of meditation during pregnancy. Throughout, there is a gentle emphasis on slowing down, being mindful and paying attention to our internal signals.
As a family physician, writer on pregnancy birth and mothering, and mother of four (with a large collection of pregnancy and birth books!) I particularly welcomed the chapter for fathers and the advice on changing relationships, which are not often covered. Chopra et al advocate Dr Marshall Rosenberg's nonviolent communication (NVC) techniques which are wonderful tools to enhance conscious communications.
I also relished the philosophy, woven all through this enlightening book, of respect for mother and baby and for the amazing changes that happen over the months of pregnancy and birth.
New insights in mind-body medicine are confirming the traditional wisdom that a mother's mental and emotional state in pregnancy can have long-lasting effects on the well-being of her child. Magical Beginnings, Enchanted Lives provides the tools and insights to help us all to nourish our babies and ourselves at this important time. As the authors conclude, `The souls of our children are the potential for tomorrow's world.'

The Kids' Book of Questions: Revised for the New Century Review

We took this book on a long car trip two years ago when my kids were 10 and 12. We spent hours talking and laughing about the questions and our answers. The book asks many humorous questions such as "If you could be invisible for a day, what would you do?", or "What was the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to you? Are you embarrassed now by the same things that used to embarrass you?". But mostly, the book asks insightful and thought-provoking questions such as, "What are you most proud of having done? What would make you even more proud?", or "Some adults have a lot of trouble enjoying themselves. If you were asked to give them some advice about how to play and have more fun, what would you say?", or "Do you think boys or girls have it easier?". This book has been in our car for 2 years. The kids still pick it up frequently to ask questions to their carpool on the way to school, or to ask questions to their friends on the way to sports practices. And they especially love to hear their parents' answers!

The Kids' Book of Questions: Revised for the New Century Overview

Now more than ever, parents are told how important it is to talk meaningfully to their kids. This is the book that makes it happen. A revised and expanded second edition, The Kids' Book of Questions, with 634,000 copies in print, makes it easy to ask hard questions and fun to answer them. Questions to challenge, questions to provoke. Questions to entertain and expand young minds. Questions about right or wrong, about fears and hopes, ethics, religious beliefs, about why parents act the way they do--even about ruling the world.Updated to include questions on subjects that have arisen since the book's original publication in 1988--from the internet to issues like school violence and terrorism--the book is a sure way to prod young people into discovering who they really are and what they really believe. There are inquiries into values: "If you knew you wouldn't get caught, would you cheat on a test by copying someone else's answers?" Intriguing fantasies: "If you could email any famous person and know they'd read and answer your note, who would you write to and what would you say?" Philosophical queries: "Have you had any personal experiences that lead you to believe in God?" Provocative scenarios: "After being given a truth pill, what would you say if you were asked to describe your family?"Kids, and parents, will be amazed to find how far one little question will lead.

Fables Vol. 5: The Mean Seasons Review

The fifth collected-edition of "Fables" is a much more subdued affair than "March of the Wooden Soldiers". It contains several smaller stories that advance further many of the overall plot lines lingering about Fabletown.
First, we learn of Cinderella's more devious nature in "Cinderella Libertine". The less said about this story, the better, simply because its impact lies in its ending. No point spoiling it.
Next, we get a couple of "War Stories", as we follow Bigby Wolf into his past as a spy for the Allies during World War II, on a mission that never officially happened, as Bigby leads a squad of American troops to a castle behind enemy lines.
Finally is "The Mean Seasons" proper, as King Cole discovers he was perhaps not as popular as a mayor as he thought, and his successor, Prince Charming, learns actually governing a city requires a lot more than charm. His new administration, including Beauty and the Beast, also find the elaborate system that Snow White and Bigby have in place to keep the city running smoothly.
Meanwhile, Snow White gives birth to Bigby's litter, moves to the Farm (where the "nonhuman" looking Fables must stay) and meets her father-in-law. Others leave Fabletown for various reasons, including Bigby, who is not allowed on the Farm. And some invisible creature is killing various residents of Fabletown.
While "March of the Wooden Soldiers" was and is my favorite storyline, I have to say that I found "Mean Seasons" to have quite the emotional impact. Writer Bill Willingham, after carefully building the status quo of the series for three years, has swept it away, while paying attention to the logical consequences of those changes. The result is a very touching volume in this excellent series.
DC has wisely fast-tracked this series for trade-paperback format. That's a good thing, since it's an excellent series. I anticipate future volumes.

Fables Vol. 5: The Mean Seasons Overview

Collecting issues 22 and 28-33 of the hit VERTIGO series, this trade paperback features two tales of Bigby's exploits during World War II as well as "The Year After," which follows the aftermath of the Adversary's attempt to conquer Fabletown — including the birth of Snow White and Bigby's children!
