Rattled: A Memoir Review

I adored this book so much I wrote a review when I was just a few chapters in (which I had to delete to post this review). Well, I have finished it, and I can say with certainty that this book was wonderful from beginning to end. Coppa's writing is engrossing. I saw this book while I was checking out at Barnes&Noble. It was sitting by the check out counter on the mother's day stand and the bright chick-lit-esque cover caught my eye. I quickly read the back and decided to give it a try. I was unaware that Coppa writes a blog for Glamour (I'm a Cosmo girl myself), so I was not sure what to expect.
For any woman who has peed on a sick and either hoped to God it was one line or two this book is for you. Whether you have had a close call, are a mother yourself, or just have a soul, you can relate to Coppa's journey into a situation that turns out so magically. Of course most single women do not plan to become single mothers, but Coppa makes an amazing revelation that I loved. She does not want to be pregnant, and hates the situation she is in, but she wants her baby. That is so often the most overlooked aspect of unexpected pregnancies with younger women. Coppa got something so wonderful out of a not-so-good predicament.
This book is a total page turner. Her attention to detail is unreal. I felt like one of her best friends, like I was there through this with her the whole 9 months. This book really impressed me, especially coming from such a young author. If it is any foreshadowing into what Coppa will bring us in the future we are all in luck. I can't wait to read more from this author, and I definitely hope she writes some more about her life with her son, Jack.

Rattled: A Memoir Overview

Warm, honest, funny, and empowering, Rattled! is an unforgettable memoir of a life that takes an unexpected turn—and a brave young woman who decides to follow where the road leads. Everything in twenty-six-year-old Christine's life was going as planned—great friends, a promising job as a magazine assistant, New York City at her feet . . . even a cute guy. Until the fateful day she realizes she's pregnant by said cute guy, whom she'd only been dating for a few months. The next thing you know, he bails and Christine is left to wonder, What now? Trading Manhattan for the suburbs, skinny jeans for sweatpants, and all-nighters with the girls for 3 a.m. feedings with a restless infant, Christine chooses to live a life that honors what's important to her—and finds strength she didn't know she had in the process.

Balancing Pregnancy and Work: How to Make the Most of the Next 9 Months on the Job (Stonesong Press Books) Review

This book should be required reading not just for every woman who works through her pregnancy but also bosses and co-workers! The best part for me was how and when to tell your boss because that was the most nervewracking step. The author also offers great advice for dealing with all the symptoms we deal with while pregnant and gives advice for dealing with rude/insensitive comments from co-workers. (I know they mean well but if one more person rubs my belly, so help me!!)
I bet most people don't know half this information (both the legal stuff and the common sense info) and it would really help every office with pregnant (or planning to be pregnant) women. I want my HR department to have this in their office next to their health insurance binder (plus I wish I could sneak a copy anonymously to my boss.)
