Juggling Twins: The Best Tips, Tricks, and Strategies from Pregnancy to the Toddler Years Review

I have now read three of the books that are out there on handling twin babies, and I have to say this one is absolutely the best. First of all, it is hilarious, which really makes it fun to read. But more importantly, it gave me meaningful, specific ways to cope. Not just "get help" but "here's how, exactly". I just felt like, reading it, I had a best friend or sister guiding me through the whole way, reassuring me that I could do this and telling me HOW. I feel so much better prepared for twins than I did before I read it, even though I had already read "Here They Come" and "Twinspiration." It wasn't until I got this book that I started to feel like I can handle these babies. This one is definitely going to become the go-to book for expecting twin moms. As my due date nears, I am actually now RE-reading some parts.

I am a mother of two growing young men, and that has caused me to be crotchety toward the things that young people do. One thing that I am especially given to crotchets about is the use of the acronym LOL. I don't hate laughing, mind, and I certainly don't expect anyone to laugh silently. Laughing out loud is great! I just don't love LOL.
And yet, I have found myself LOLing every time I open this book. And everyone in my family is LOLing every time they open this book, including my 11-year-old and 8-year-old sons. Everyone where I work LOL'd when they stole it off my desk to read when they were supposed to be working and you should ask before you put your dirty paws all over someone else's brand new book, Megan!* My point is that, despite how much I hate LOL, I wouldn't be able to describe how much laughing out loud this book has been providing everyone around me without using that very shorthand. So, there you go.
Here's why I love it. A hundred years ago when I first saw that little blue line on that urine-soaked stick (which I then jumped around, waving in the air. Gross!) I ran right out and bought a certain book about what a woman should expect when she is expecting a certain thing. The certain thing is a baby. Well, I sat right down and devoured that book, and when I was through...I was afraid to move. Or eat. Or think too much. When I finally got over the trauma, I told my husband that vaunted tome should really be called, "1,000 Things to Be Paranoid About Over the Next Nine Months. HA HA, You Should See How Crazy Your Eyes Look Right Now!" I picked it up with a pair of tongs and tossed it in a box never to be seen again. Clearly, these two women understand the way I felt back then. They get me. They get you too. And this book is the answer to any pregnancy and parenthood guide out there that will try to convince you that you might have toxoplasmosis from a partial granule of cat litter that your husband tracked near you on the bottom of his shoe and which somehow got into your eye.
If you are looking to have a baby or you're looking to install a baby in someone, if you've recently had a baby or watched while the special lady in your life did all the work, this book is for you. I wish I'd had this before I got pregnant. I'm glad I have it now. And if you're currently pregnant, don't worry, this book will not cause you to laugh your fetus right out of you, because that's not scientifically possible. But you will probably tinkle your maternity pants. Which you're going to do anyway, so might as well have fun doing it!
*Her real name. And to be fair to Megan, she immediately ordered two copies of the book - one for herself and one for a shower gift - as soon as I pried her grubby mitts off of mine.

I have used "NO MORE AMOXICILLIN" on myself and my 4 month old. While I was pregnant, I developed a very severe ear infection. Being that I was pregnant, I couldn't take any medication. I started using Dr. Mary Ann Block's technique through manipulation. My husband gave me 3 treatments a day and before long my ear infection was gone and I felt great. I could actually feel my ears draining during the treatment. It is always nice to find a way to cure you or your loved ones without the use of extra medication. This is definitely one of those. I have been doing the manuipulation technique on my 4 month old son since he was born and everytime he goes to the pediatrician she says that his ears look great. I have also purchased the video titled,"Treat Ear and Respiratory Infections WITHOUT Antibiotics!" This gives even more in depth information and a hands on demonstration of the manipulation technique. I highly recommend this book.

I recently received this book as a "New Pregnancy" gift from my neighbor. When I looked at the cutesy pink cover and the drawing I thought, this has to be a frivolous book and I didn't even open it. But when I developed a pregnancy complication and none of my other books had any information on it, I decided to give this book a try - and BOY! was I ever glad I did! It turned out to have exactly the information I needed. The more I read the more I realized that this book is FANTASTIC - filled with such great health information on things you don't find in other pregnancy books. Plus it has some terrific beauty and fashion advice to boot! Now it's become my "bedside Bible" - and a day doesn't go by when I don't consult it for something! This is my first pregnancy and this book was so easy to read and understand and SO upbeat and positive - it's just a joy to read. Knocked Up: Confessions of a Hip Mother-to-be Review

Please, may I review with fewer than one star? In all my life I have never, never, read a book as bland and inherently dull as Rebecca Eckler's Knocked Up. Buying it along with a few books on pregnancy, I thought it would be a breath of fresh air, a break from all the other tomes offering serious advice. Nope.
Why on earth did this writer feel she should share these uninspired musings on pregnancy? How on earth can a 30 year-old woman be so clueless about her own body? Is she honest? Maybe, but boy she is so self-centred and self-absorbed, while pondering why her friends are just that. I have no use for this book or for her writing and am incrdibly sorry I spent $14 to purchase it. What a sad little life she leads, valuing all the wrong aspects of her soulless existence while truly feeling she is a hip mother-to-be!
Someone out there should write a funny yet informative first-hand book about first time pregnancy. This is absolutely not it. Are we supposed to sympathise with this selfish and shallow woman? By the end of the book (and I was so glad it came) I could not stand her. This woman does not have a single ounce of writing talent. Read anything else, anything at all.

The Pregnancy Book: Month-by-Month, Everything You Need to Know From America's Baby Experts Review

This pregnancy book is *much* better than the "What to Expect When You're Expecting" book that is so often recommended to every pregnant woman out there. It is also much better than the other 'standard' pregnancy books you'll find.
This book is a complete and joyful guide to what happens during pregnancy - mentally, emotionally, and physically - to mom and baby. It has a great index; so if a specific symptom doesn't crop up in the exact month they cover it, you can easily look it up in the back and read about it. I found this guide very informative and supportive of everything I'm going through with my second pregnancy. [I wish I'd had this book for my first pregnancy, instead of that wretched "what to expect" book].
My one criticism of this book: the Sears' gloss over the pain that most women experience during labor. I didn't find the segment on labor very helpful or realistic. As a Childbirth Educator myself, I don't feel that anyone is doing pregnant women a favor by convicing them that labor doesn't hurt - that it is just 'pressure' or 'discomfort'. The reality is that for most women, labor IS painful - often extremely so. Women who seek an unmedicated birth need to prepare themselves to cope with and overcome this pain. And regardless of whether a woman expects to use medication or not, nobody is doing her any favors by misleading her about labor pain - she's not going to thank them when it hits her full on.
For preparing for labor and delivery, I *highly* recommend "Birthing From Within" by Pam England. It is much more realistic in preparing you for the "Real Thing" - and it is geared to help every woman work through her own issues and concerns about birthing. It is by far the most excellent book out there on labor and delivery.
Other than that small complaint - I think this is a *wonderful* guide to pregnancy - very supportive and comforting while being very honest.

This book is wonderful for anyone who wants to adopt their spouse's child and has the consent of the other bio-parent (or other stipulation such as the death of the bio-parent, etc.). It not only provides needed forms, but also has word-by-word examples of the documents you will need to type yourself (for me, that was actually fun!) Additionally, if you live in Los Angeles as I did during the process, it gives you special instructions for filing in L.A. county - very helpful! I had to pay only a $700 assessment fee and 2 or 3 small filing fees and the whole process, from filing the initial petition to the final hearing (which is especially enjoyable) was completed in under 4 months! And the experience brought me even closer to our 5 year old little girl as well as my wife! A lawyer quoted me legal fees of "$2,500 to $3,000, not including filing and assessment fees" before I found this book. You will not only save money, but come away with an amazing sense of accomplishment and a renewed appreciation for your family. I highly recommend this book!

It took me too long to finish this book ... because my wife kept stealing it since it was a lot more fun than any of her pregnancy books! However, I just finished this easy read, and I couldn't help but recommend this to fathers-to-be.
Let's be clear: this isn't an instruction manual or anything to take too seriously. It is a very fun, month-by-month account of pregnancy.
For the people who gave it low ratings, maybe you were looking for too much out of it ... this book isn't going to stop your wife's morning sickness and it isn't going to teach you the secret to triple your income before the baby is born. However, it might lighten what can be a time of emotional highs and lows, filled with fear, ecstasy, anxiety and elation, often all at the same time.
Seriously, there are plenty of good books out there which give great suggestions for how to handle the upcoming changes in your lives. Check out "The Expectant Father" or books of that ilk ... but to loosen up a little bit and have fun while getting involved in the pregnancy, get this book. Just don't read any of it to your wife until you've finished it, or you won't see it until she's finished reading it herself.

I was so excited to learn that Sheri wrote a book. It lived up to every expectation. I just got it in the mail yesterday and I can't put it down. It is blunt, humorous and gives practical advice. Being a stickler for spelling and grammar, I was distracted from the content of this book by the grammatical and spelling errors. The print quality was poor, with some pages very bold (to the point of being blurred) and others printed too close to the spine which made for difficult reading. The content may be sound, but I will never know as I haven't been able to get past the first chapter for those reasons.

This book is *much* more helpful than many others on the market, in my not always so humble opinion. Very sound advice, suggestions, great tone/approach overall. Because when it comes right down to it, nutrition is THE biggest thing we have control of, while pregnant. Even if one does not want to invest in or "do" all the herbs she suggests throughout the text, the basic pregnancy and nutritional advice is very sound, and ultimately, helpful throughout a woman's life. Funny... another reviewer mentioned pagan content. I've owned, referred to and personally used this book for two years, and have never noticed anything "pagan" about it. Does merely recognizing the spiritual aspects of birth count as pagan? If so, I guess I must be a pagan, too. Modern obstetrics would have us ignore the spiritual/emotional aspects of birth, seemingly entirely, but... the food we eat nourishes not only our unborn children, but our own souls, as well. Check out this wonderful book/approach to pregnancy, birth and life.

How will my family adjust to a new baby? What is postpartum depression?
Pregnancy and childbirth is uncharted territory for new mothers-to-be. With this book in hand, you will have the guidance you need to help you have a happy, healthy pregnancy and labor.

The Duggars: 20 and Counting: Raising One of America's Largest Families--How they Do It Review

I had my library order this book for me for their collection, and it arrived early (hence the review before publication date). I read the book in a few hours today. It is quite an interesting read with lots of information that has never been included in their television specials. The Duggars write about their political run, child rearing philosphies, daily schedule, organizing and chore methods, their businesses (past and present), and many more topics.
There are many recipes and pictures with captions (some from before they had any kids) scattered throughout the book. Most of the recipes are available on their family website, though. The Duggars even included a floor plan of their home which cleared up some confusion for me as to where things were located after watching their tv shows.
I was surprised to read that even though their home was professionally decorated by Discovery Health/TLC, there were a couple of things not included/completed in their home their first year that many of us would not want to live without in our own homes. They had to save up to afford them. I think some of us probably get the wrong impression from their shows that they have a lot of money in the bank. After reading the book I believe that they really are frugal and need to be to provide for their family.
I wish the book had included more information on how they really live frugally today. Possibly some information on the menus they follow to budget food expenses or more overall budget/expense information on how they truly afford 17+ kids, would have made an interesting addition. Also, there is only a little tidbit about the girls' "dress code". I wish they had included more information about how they came to decide on it and when they started the modest dress code.
It was overall an interesting read and gave me a more complete understanding of this large God fearing family.

If you know anyone who has just found out their wife is pregnant....this is the book they absolutely will need. So many mom's have showers and receive gifts for the baby. Why not include this book for the dad! Not only does this book enlighten fathers, mothers will want to steal this book to refer to all the great sections on baby/toddler development. The charts on page 52 and 66 organize the developmental advances a baby goes through.
The first chart shows everything from how newborns communicate to when you can expect your baby to take their first steps. The Toddler chart spans the time from 15 months to 5 years and discloses when your child will enjoy rhyming games or when they will start to name everyday objects.
Many of the sections in this book are very thoughtful and encourage a dad to consider the child in his life and make this new life a high priority. This book is also filled with humor guys will really relate to.
Through the seven chapters, men will learn what it takes to be a dad, how to be a good prenatal dad, what to expect at the birth, what changes to expect in the first two weeks and then what to look for in the first year and toddler/preschool years. The "Many Faces of Fatherhood" is a modern look at fatherhood. Adoption, divorce, unwed fathers, stepfathers and widowed fathers are also given some great advice.
"The most important thing you can do to ensure your child develops good emotional health is to show your love for him or her. Do this, and your child will feel valued, loved, and respected." --page 68
The last chapter is "For Mom's Eyes Only." It explains the "Myths" of parenting and how to deal with them in a logical way. Mothers and fathers will also love the "10 ways to make time for your children" list on page 13. Turn the page over and you will see why a good marriage is so important to a child. The Index is great for the busy parent who wants to find answers fast. Look up everything from car seats to language skills.
This book gives real world tips from fathers on how to be a positive influence in the life of their child. It guides men through pregnancy and childbirth and has practical advice on how men can help care for an infant. Truly, this is moral support to encourage men to become the best fathers they can be.
I purchased this book to give to my cousin's husband. They are having their first baby in December and I could not think of a better gift to give to a baby! Yes, this is truly a gift for the child. A dad who has this information is going to be one of the most enlightened dad's on the planet! For mothers, look for the New Baby Book, created by Mothers for Mothers. These books present parenting as an exciting journey. I can't imagine anyone not wanting to start reading this book as soon as they start to consider having children. If you just found out your wife is pregnant, or if you are the new mom who is buying this book for your husband, Congratulations! You are going to love this resource.

This book was very helpful to me during and after my pregnancy. The book includes chapters on physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of pregnancy and helps you plan for the postpartum period. Louden offers practical suggestions (for instance, think of food in terms of colors and try to include every color each day) and ideas for you to explore about your ideal birth, what you will miss about your life before the baby, etc. There were many times when I was going through something and could find just the chapter to fit my situation (i.e. "I am a body without a brain"). And I was glad I went through the postpartum chapters before my daughter was born. During those first two insane months of motherhood, I could go back to my journaling based on those chapters and remind myself of the things that were important. Thanks to Jennifer's suggestions, I had even created lists of resources to turn to when things got tough.
One reviewer mentions the new-agey aspects of the book. I am also not particularly comfortable with that brand of spirituality, but I just ignored those parts, which only made a small portion of the book. The book is good enough that the parts I skipped didn't detract from its value to me.
Also, don't skip this book if you are adopting a baby. Although you may not relate to the chapters about the physical aspects of pregnancy, there are plenty of chapters that explore your feelings about motherhood, so this book will work for you.
I highly recommend this book to mothers-to-be of all types!

Most books on pregnancy are written for women - and rightly so, but mostly there is a man involved somewhere and he can be forgotten in the excitement. This book addresses the concerns of men before and after conception - particularly their emotional concerns. I bought it for my husband, but have read it myself. Now I have a better understanding of what he is worried and excited about. It has helped us address issues that otherwise may not have brought into the open. While browsing through Amazon the title of this book
Caught my attention and I searched within for a peak.
Somehow it drew my deeper interests. So I ordered the book out of curiosity.
This story brought me to wonderful warm tears. It reminded me of the wonder of motherhood and the mysteries within. I was amazed that a man could write in such depth to touch gently the within of a woman. It was fantastic! I became attached to the baby telling the story as if it were my own and within my own womb. I felt once again the warmth of motherhood and the feelings which pregnancy brings
upon a mother and her bonding with the child growing inside. I laughed at the humor and was awed at the depth I was drawn to perceive. The author's ability to comprehend is dramatic and his perceptions right on.
The illustrations are child-like perceptions that of themselves also depicted a story. Mr. Vincents' use of art he created is heartfelt.
ABSOLUTELY A BOOK FOR PRO-LIFE!
I recommend this book to all women and especially to
all carrying a blessing. I believe this book could easily
be used as a tutor for teenage children for sharing how and why children are conceived and arrive into this world. In a true and comforting way of sharing the answers all children one day ask of their parents.
This book is for all against abortion as the baby explains his connection with the Creator.
This book is for Christians!
This book is a great addition to all families! Chuckle, laugh and cry with the main character as he explores the inner realms of life.
I admit, I have now read it at least four times through and still find warm tears and joy arrive each time. Wow!
I also have purchased and read Mr. Vincent's book Hray-Mah Jesus is Coming! My curiosity once more...This writing brought me to realize the Simplicity of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and I was a Christian before reading it, and feel now I am still a Christian but with new bright knowledge and perspective in what Jesus taught and shared to all humans. His book drew me to deeply read the Bible in desire of thirst for the truth, and I was amazed how the author enticed me to go read my own bible and read for myself the things Jesus left for each of us to easily discover. This was a great learning. I am looking forward to reading his other books. Clearly, this is Christianity as it was really meant to be: Simple and direct...and based only on Jesus Christ of Nazareth as our Lord Savior. Amen!
