What He Can Expect When She's Not Expecting: How to Support Your Wife, Save Your Marriage, and Conquer Infertility Review
My wife and I have been dealing with infertility on and off for about three years now. With my wife now on the bandwagon again, I decided to get this book and see if it could offer me the male perspective I've been lacking. I'm happy to say it did and then some! The first few chapters were mostly about when to start trying, when to see a doctor, etc., so that wasn't really for me (though if you are just confronting infertility, I highly recommend these chapters -- also the one's that break down all the testing in "guy-speak".) Where the book really shined, for me at least, was in all the advice the author gives about how to cope with your wife while she's going through all this stuff. It's clear he experienced everything first hand, and it almost felt like a friend telling me what I should and shouldn't do. I've got to say that I've been looking for a book like this for a long time. I highly recommend it.
What He Can Expect When She's Not Expecting: How to Support Your Wife, Save Your Marriage, and Conquer Infertility Overview
Tips and advice from a man who's been there, for the six million couplesstruggling to get pregnant.
Marc Sedaka stood by while he and his wife endured endlessrounds of drug therapies, sixteen artificial inseminations, tenin-vitro fertilizations, three miscarriages, and, finally, a gestationalsurrogate ('womb for rent") who carried their twin girls to term.He was as supportive and loving as he could be, but he really wishedhe'd had a book like What He Can Expect When She's Not Expectingduring the process. Most books about dealing with infertility aregeared toward women, leaving the man to his own devices when itcomes to comfort and encouragement (never a good idea). With the help of his own infertility doctor, Sedaka providesstraightforward guy-friendly advice on situations such as:
What questions you should ask at the consultations.
How to help rather than annoy.
What kinds of tests you and your wife should expect.
How to console a wife who appears inconsolable.
How to enjoy procreation sex.
Sedaka's accessible, empathetic voice, combined with the fact thathe experienced everything he writes about, makes this a must-havebook for any infertile couple.
