The Long Awaited Stork is the book that I wish I'd found three years ago when my twins were born! Like many other infertility veterans, I thought that my struggles were over when I became pregnant and delivered two healthy baby girls. Indeed, things are great but I still find that infertility is part of my life. I loved it when Ms. Glazer referred to the "cameo appearances" that infertility makes. It's a great description for those waves of feeling that come back when I least expect them. This book is a GREAT gift for anyone who is newly pregnant or for a new adoptive parent.

This book is a MUST READ for anyone trying to get pregnant. At 39 I had an FSH of 15.9 and was told by a fertility specialist to consider donor eggs or adoption - end of story no other options. He said I was out of eggs and gave me a 5% chance of conciving (with or without IVF) and a 1% chance of carrying a baby to full term. My husband and I where devistated to say the least. I did tons of research, sat in chat rooms and read thousands of on-line postings and support group websites. This book made the difference! I never believed in anything non-western and thought all the other stuff like acupuncture was hokey. I read the book cover to cover, followed a strict diet and did acupunture. After one, yes ONE month of trying I became pregnent and had a perfect girl. Nine months after that I did everything again and after four months of trying go pregnant again and have perfect little boy. I want to put their pictures on a brick and throw it through that doctors wondow. If you are having problems please read this book. While I understand that this may not help someone with blocked tubes who needs surgery at least you can check the box that it's not an imbalance due to bad diet or stress. Please ladies, read this book with an open mind and give it a try. This book and a lot of sincere prayer helped me. And to those of you trying who are frustrated and heartbroken please know that you are not alone!

Harriet Fishman Simons's description of how it feels to have a child but be unable to have another exactly mirrored how I have felt, and I think the book was very perceptive in describing the unique sorrow that faces parents who want so much but cant have another child. Her description of the differences between how women and men deal with this problem is particularly good and corresponds to how I have felt and how other women I know have felt. I cried reading this book but found it cathartic. However, my one complaint about this book is the relative neglect is gives to the issue of secondary infertility stemming from multiple miscarriages rather than the failure to conceive. I have searched for books that deal with this issue--and I think this is not uncommon for women suffering from secondary infertility. The issue of whether to keep trying, the fact that in most cases the doctors cant give you any reason for the failure, the toll that miscarriage places on your marriage and on raising your child, arent really dealt with except for passing references.

Though at first I was skeptical at any book about the financial side of infertility, I realized a few pages into the book that the average reader would not only gain back the $16 spent on the book, but would probably save a minimum of several hundred dollars or more over the long run.
It doesn't just give you ways to save money, it gives you ways to understand how things relate to you financially on a personal level. For instance, it isn't helpful to make a statement about shared-risk plans without explaining how they work and who should use them. Financing can never be a one-size fits all approach.
And at the very least, the book helps you think outside the box and consider ways to save money on medications, treatments, and testing. It explains how to navigate insurance companies and how to find clinical trials. It explains fertility grants and scholarships and how to find them. But above all, it gives you the confidence to take charge of the financial side and understand how to budget for treatments.

I can't believe that anyone let me start the process of infertility treatment (beyond the clomid stage) without telling me to read this. I found it on my own when having to decide whether my only chance to have a child, egg donation, was right for my husband and myself. I only WISH someone had told me about it sooner. It would have helped me think about all of "this" in a not so crazy way. It's technical, but, those of us who go through infertility procedures know more about the getting pregnant process than most books and online souces give us credit for. These authors treat us like intelligent human beings.

This book is horribly out of date, vague and poorly edited. I found a few pieces of information helpful but not much. I will certainly look for a more current book this time around. Many of the examples refer to California and are, therefore, very misleading. You'd be better off with internet research.

I found this book to be discouraging and depressing. Infertility is a miserable experience, and reviewing the bad feelings associated with it is counter-productive. We know we're not alone and we know we're on an emotional rollercoaster, now someone offer us something useful. This book reviews all of these feelings in great detail, making one dwell on the helplessness of the situation. The information on handling family and friends was helpful, but overall, I would not recommend this book to anyone dealing with infertility; please find another source of support.

This book made me quite angry. In the most general critique, the writing was mediocre. On the subject, the author complained throughout the book and was incredible ungrateful. For someone who was provided with two healthy twins on her first round if IVF, she had many things to complain of including the comment "I will always resent my children being born via IVF." I purchased this book as a resource and a means to help me through the choice of IVF and instead found a woman who cannot count her blessings and fails to see the beauty in what she and medical science has given her.

Run around from insurance company, which we had to argue with to even get meds covered. Marriage nearly went in the tank before we took a break, got some counseling and then did some research - we would've saved tons of $$ and 2+ years if we had this book! I was able to read the book in a few days and when my husband and I went to our appointment we were not completely lost in all of the jargon and overwhelming amount of information. This is an invaluable resource for patients, OBs, and especially REs. If you've suffered just one m/c, do not blindly accept your OB's advice to simply try again w/o doing any research. After giving birth to a healthy boy, I had my 1st m/c at age 33. My OB told me to try again. After all, it worked the 1st time with the birth of my son. So, we tried and tried and tried. After 3 m/cs, we finally met Dr. Beer, who saw red flags in my immune system. One year later, I was holding my miracle baby girl in my arms at the hospital. Dr. Beer explains a very difficult science in language we can all understand and has helped countless couples complete their families after suffering many tragic losses and being unsuccessfully treated (not to mention financially and emotionally drained) by REs. If only immune testing were routinely performed on all couples seeking help by REs. . . This book is groundbreaking and highly recommended. Thank you to Dr. Beer for dedicating his life to the science of Reproductive Immunology and for sharing his science with us through this book and his medical practice.

Let's face it; I'm a tad raw regarding this subject matter. However, I was so grateful to read a kindred-spirit's insights while I shed many cathartic tears. As she intimately and honestly chronicled her heart wrenching path going from failure to conceive, to hopeful for a different kind of future than she ever designed, she gave me a newfound hope as I struggle to cross the threshold into the next stage of our lives.
This book is an important read for every single person out there--in the infertile world or otherwise (despite the potential discomfort one may feel reading about the infertility travails she endured). Because guess what? You may not know it, but the likelihood is great that you DO know someone who is silently suffering through the pain of a childless empty nest. Just as we should be sensitive to apparent medical conditions, so should we too regarding infertility. Mrs. Tsigdinos does a stellar job leading the troops in raising infertility awareness and understanding with her forthright, brave, and humorous voice.

This book is such a great resource for anyone going through IVF. The author gets down to the science of things and the pictures of what is going on are so helpful. Coming from a medical background I really appreciated this book. And for those not from a medical background it is written in a way everyone can understand.
